Initially castle Borek was established before the year 1415 by kin Kraa. The castle was attacked by Hussite in 1421 because the Lord Wenceslas from Moravěves and Kopist was Catholic and opponent of aristocracy. The castle was reconstructed in 20's zear of 15th centurz. The castle was new overlaid and its facade was red. At that time it got a nex name The Red Castle (Červený Hrádek). The castle had many ownerships (Konipasové, Ojíř from Očedilice, Glatz family and so on).
Jan Adam Hrzán of Harasov had a baroque castle built in the site of a Gothic castle ruined during the Thirty - year war. The architects of this castle were Italian Antonio della Porta at the beginning and Frenchman Jean Baptiste Mathey in the end phase. In 1675 this four - wing consstruction was finished in essence. The names of outstanding baroque sculptors Jan Brokof and his son Ferdinand Maximilian born here in 1688, are linked to the Červený Hrádek castle. The final modification to this building werw carried out for the von Hohenlohe - Langeburg family by Bohemian architect Jan Kotěra in 1895. In Septembeer 1938 important negotiations led to British support of the Munich Agreement regarding the separation of the so - called Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia. Only the richly decorated main hall of the original castle's interiors has remained.
During nationalize was castle open for people for a short time. Then there was a recreation department, a house for Grecian children, then boarding school for students of Chemical school. Chomutov's hospital advantaged a castle as a sanatorium for adult.
Now is castle in ownership of the town Jirkov (from 1996) and it is a celtural and turistic centre.
