Bezruc's Valley

This is the deepest and longest valley in Krusne hory (ore mounatains), which due to its natural value was declared the Nature Park of Bezruc Valley in spring 2002. Part of the park is made up of natural areas of valley slopes and fluvial plain of the Chomutovska river, but the core part is the wild area of Novodomske raseliniste (Novodomske peat bog). Other wild area are called Buky nad Kamenickou (Beeches over Kamenicka) and the nature sanctuary Krasna Lipa (Beuatiful Lime Tree).

Bolebor

Hamlet six km from Jirkov, 619 above the sea level, one of the oldest communities in the mountains.

Hasištejn

Castle on the route from Jirkov to Kadaň, about 25km from Jirkov. It is a very interesting cultural centre in the season.

Chomutov

First mention of Chomutov is dated into the 10th or 11th century when a small Slav settlement was founded on the main route from Prague to Leipzig. The earliest known reference to the town dates from 1252 when Bedrich Naceradec of Chomutov gave it to the Teutonic Knights. The town became the centre of the order of North Bohemia lordship and the seat of its provincial commander. In 1605 it became a royal city.

Jindrisska

Hamlet 4 km from Jirkov, half-timbered folk farmsteads from the middle of 19th century.

Jirkov - town tower

Built onto St. Giles Church in 1540 - 1550. It is open form 1. 5. - 30. 9. every day except Monday. There is installed art exhibition in the interior of the town tower.

Kadaň

The royal town of Kadaň is situated in the North of Bohemia, about 30 km from the border with Germany. A great boom of Kadaň was seen in the period of CHarles IV, who granted the town royal privileges. The arrival of Charles IV. at the town Kadaň is commemorated with „The Emperor s Days“ held always on the first Saturday of September. The heritage of a number of generations is carefully protected and kept mainly after 1989.

The Franciscan Monastery with the Church of 14 Holy Helpers, which has been listed among the National Monuments of the Czech Republic since 1995, belongs to the most important monuments together with the Town Hall, the Hospital Church of St John the Baptist, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, town walls, Holy Gate, and the castle rising on the rock above the river Ohře. Today you can find in the castle a ceremonial hall, municipal library, Josef Liesler s Gallery and the house with a geriatric day care centre is being prepared now.

Kamenec Lake (Alum Lake)

Alum Lake is proclaimed as the world s only alum lake. It was formed by flooding mines in which alum and sulphur were exploited during the years 1558 - 1785. It covers an area of 16.22 ha,it is 240m wide at its widest point and 676 m long, its maximum depth is 3.25 m. The chemical composition of the water prevents organic life from thriving, except for protozoa. However, it is good for people s health - thanks to its health - giving properties.

Klasterec nad Ohri

First informations abou Klasterec nad Ohri are from 12th century. Decoration of Bennets built a branch so-called claustrellum - small monastery, which was abolished in 13 th century. The name of settlement was the same and it was later changed to German Klasterlin and in 15th to Czech Klasterzecs.

Castle in Klasterec nad Ohri

Volf Detrich Fictum built on the riverside Ohre Lord's house in 1514. Prism tower with Renaissance copes in ground floor. It is work by Krystof Fictum. Later it was incorporated to baroque new building. It was made by employers Thurn - Austrian aristocracy.Castle was repair in 1653. Early baroque form is by Rossimo de Luca (Italian employer) from 1666.

Most

The town 20 km from Jirkov. In 1515 a smashing fire affected the city Most. Until this time the gothic city construction was extended around the church of ascension of the Virgin Mary - early Gothic three-naves basilica. In 1517they began, according to plans of Jakub Heilmann with construction of a new church. It is a very nice church with interesting exhibition of gothic and baroque art of North - western Bohemia. An other nice place in Most is Castle Hnevin. Most castle was built on the Chateau mountain (Hnevin). In year 1879 it was stopped the restaurant, in 1889 it was stated the group of friends of Castle mountain and it was begun with the construction of city with outlook. It finished in September 1900. If you have free time you can vist Planetarium, Autodrom, Aquadrom or Hipodrom.

Telšské valley

On river Bělá between Březenec and Jirkov, closed by the stone wall of a reservoir of drinking water from 1966. Flooded area of approximately 15 hectares, holds 5 500 000 m3 of water.

The castle Jezeří

Built in 1363 - 1365 by the barons from Rvenice. In 1513 Zikmun Smolik bequested the fortified castle to his brother - in - law Mikulas Hochhauser. In 1623 the estates were confiscated for the participation in the Czech state uprising and were sold to Vilem junior from Lobkovice. In 1646 the castle was burnt out. Then Ferdinand Vilem from Lobkowitz began to build the castle again this time in the baroque style. The end of 18 th century and beginning of 19th century meant the climax of construction and cultural history of the castle. Since 1802 the castle theatre had run. The decorative garden and park were around the castle that in 1838 had the extent of approximately 50 hectares. After second World War the castle passed to the property of the state. The Czechoslovak Army had stayed there for some time and after its leaving it was used as the boarding - house for mining educational establishment. Since the end of 50s the castle was in the state of disrepair, however in last years it was saved thanks to various civil activities.

The chateau Červený Hrádek

1 km from Jirkov, built on the site of old fortress, present appearance mainly from 17th and 18th century. It is open for public from 1. 5. - 31. 10. every day except Monday.

The wildlife park in Chomutov

In the unique separate environments, almost 120 hectares you can see, seals, bears, wolverines, wolves and other big predators as well as snakes, birds and monkeys. There are 800 animals and 180 species. They will give you a ride by an off - road vehicle in the first Eurosafari in the Czech Republic. You can take a pleasure trip by steam train - by local train Amalka around the zoo park. They have prepared a Contact Zoo and playground, children can ride on ponies or on a camel. All enclosures have wheelchair access. To complete the trip there are souvenir shops, refreshment stands and the pub „ U Pratura“. You will have a chance to see a farm with original cattle breeds and a collection of old-time agricultural machines.
