Present time

The town Jirkov lies at a height of 300 metres above sea level and is situated at the foot of the Ore Mountains (Krušné mountains) on the edge of the Most basin. Jirkovborder with district town Chomutov, which is 6 km far. The municipality Otvice lies 2 km on east by south and municipality Vysoká Pec lies 3 km on north of Jirkov. These municipalities cadastral belongs to the Jirkov: Vinařice, Březenec, Červený Hrádek and Jindřišská.

Jirkov has two railway station, first on a single way and second on the corridor Chomutov - Most. Inside town is bus and trolley service.

History nub of Jirkov is surrounded housing development. Most of them dissolved and some of them joined with new, for example Horní Cech (today Vinařická and Žižkova street) or Na Bělidle (today tennis and volleyball court). The same is Nový Březenec only on the west of Jirkov.

Jirkov has 5 modern housing developments. The first Osada was introduced in 1947, in the middle of 50'years Nové Ervěnice, in the 70'years Vinařická I. ad in the 80'years was introduce Jirkov-centre and Vinařická II.

21078 people live in Jirkov. Current town was very changed during the 60'years. Radical variety of people in Jirkov was after liberation of Czechoslovakia. Industrialization marked develop and form of town. The town and people were often strike of smog. The industry (today is Preciosa only, which does not demolish the environment) was dessolved after November 1989.

Current Jirkov is the one of youngest town in Czech Republik. In Jirkov is 15 school equipments, 60 interest institutions including sport clubs and basic art school, which very influence the feel in Jirkov. Jirkov throw a cultural traditional actions. Jirkov has 2 art galleries, the castle Červený Hrádek, community centre and cinema "May". Very good are choirs, which are successful in foreign too: Jirkov's children choir established in 1946, Women'schamber choir and miwed choir Vox Cantabilis. Ten sport clubs are in Jirkov (4x football, karate, skittle, volleyball, tennis, ski, ping-pong.
